LeBron Beats Kobe in China With a Title Giving Nike $4 Billion

By Scott Soshnick, Bloomberg.com

LeBron James’s first National Basketball Association championship would help add $4 billion in revenue from China for Nike Inc. (NKE), according to the first sports marketing employee in the country for the world’s largest sporting goods maker.

Adding a championship to a basketball resume that includes an Olympic gold medal in Beijing and two NBA Most Valuable Player awards is imperative for James, the 26-year-old Miami Heat forward, to achieve the marketing might of fellow Nike endorsers Michael Jordan, who won six titles with the Chicago Bulls, and Kobe Bryant, a five-time winner with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“LeBron is white-hot with the Chinese basketball-loving youth, but his popularity and influence outside of that circle is limited,” said Terry Rhoads, who left as Nike’s China sports marketing director in 2002 after eight years to form Shanghai- based Zou Marketing. “One reason is the lack of titles.”

  1. This article talks about what Lebron James could do to earn Nike $4 billion from china. If lebron could win a championship, he would help Nike bring in billions of dollars from china. Kobe Bryant is the current leader in bringing in High revenue for Nike from china. This is because Kobe has more championships under his belt. If Lebron wins a championship this year, he might take Kobe’s spot in china. Lebron also won a gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. This boosted his popularity in china.
I think that if lebron James would be more involved in the worldwide community, it would really help his ego. I think if he took a trip to china and did some charity work or something, then the people will not only like him for basketball, but because he is a nice, caring person. Doing something like this would definitely attract some good attention and will help increase his sales overseas. Donating money to charity and traveling around the world to help others would benefit lebron James in trying to become successful and admirable.

  2. this article is basically talking about the revenue of china increasing because of a championship that is going on in china.also because two of the NBA most valuble players are going to be palying there and people want to see them play.in the article it sais that the increasing amount of the cinese revenue is going to be 4 billion dollars to the nike inc. i think that this is going to be very helpful to the worker because now they are going to get paid a little bit more.it is also going to be helpful to the nike inc.because right now people have a very bad impression of the nike inc. because of the sweat shop that is going on in china but now that the revenue is going to go up is going to help out a lot of what the people think about them.

first of all i think that lebron is going to come in the top because of the championship and also because people love lebron and if people love him more than kobe he is going to be on the top no matter what.kobe is still going to be a very important player even though lebron won .othats why i think that lebron would come on top even if he lost the championship because people love him and he is well knoen everywhere.in my opinion i think that lebron is very good player and even better than kobe.
