McDonald's revamps stores to look more upscale

By Bruce Horovitz, USA Today

At a time when most of McDonald's competitors are still shell-shocked from the recent recession, the fast-food giant is undertaking its biggest store-by-store makeover in the chain's 56-year history: The 500-pound clown of fast food is trying to look more like a grown-up.

It's a $1 billion-plus undertaking that McDonald's and its franchisees hope, by 2015, will have the vast majority of America's 14,000 McDonald's looking comfortable enough to hang out in long after you've gobbled down your burger, fries — and smoothie.

For the next generation of McDonald's customers, the notion of what a McDonald's restaurant looks like inside and out could be turned on its head. Goodbye, fiberglass tables and industrial steel chairs. Adios, neon-yellow, bright-red interiors. Hello, wooden tables, comfortable faux leather chairs and interiors newly painted in muted oranges, yellows and even subtle greens.

  1. My thoughts on McDonald’s new designs in their stores are that… It’s a good plan. I like that they are doing new remodeling on McDonalds. It will bring in new customers to the store to buy their food. I think McDonalds is coming to a new realization that people hate cheap a$$ crap. Nobody wants to sit on some ugly cheap crap when they eat. So it’s about time they get their sh$$ together, what they need to do is change up some of those people that work there.

On their marketing ideal I think it will make a lot of money. Also bring in new customers, and give people a new outlook on McDonalds. Because let me tell you McDonalds need all the customer they can get. Over all I think this ideal is a good one for McDonalds and customers. Do I really care if this is a good ideal heck no! I don’t eat that crap!

  2. The article was about how mcdonalds is changing their appearence. They're doing it to make it have a more home like feeling. So its somewhere everyone can just sit and relax. The most important is that they're making it so people can jsut sit and relax, which might cause even more popularity and profit.
I think it'll benefit Mcdonalds because it's more for everyone now that the appearence is changing. I dont believe their losing customers, if anything they're gaining more customers. Before, it was child friendly, now it's family friendly. This whole change will affect the brand alot period. but i think it's a good change.
