Businesses will put together a host of strategies to build their brand and to find ways to interact with their consumers. These marketing plans can be extremely expensive and have to be modified as consumers constantly look for new and different things to keep their interest.

One organization that has had success beyond anything they could have imagined is the Philadelphia Phillies. In the late 1970s they decided to add a mascot to the team. The San Diego Chicken had debuted a few years earlier and the Phillies were looking for their own fun way to interact with fans. On paper the Phanatic was part of the Phillies marketing strategy.

Since his debut he has been a huge hit with fans in Philly. He is so much more than part of the team's marketing plans. He has his own place in the heart of the city.

  2. For marketing the Philly Phanatic, I would advertise on magazines, commercials, music, celebrities…etc I would try to distribute this information among common known things that are popular among people. I would then focus on the place I am trying to distribute these products; the place has to be a nice public area with a lot of people. With people, you can appeal to different types of people who would be interested in the product. So that is why I would advertise around a place with a lot of people. So that I can have hopes of having a decent amount of fans.
Team Mascots are a great way to cheer fans up for the games. Entertaining team mascots can help bring fans and keep the fans. I think they add value to the team because no one wants a boring team without a mascot. To selling tickets, the mascot can always be there to persuade people into buying tickets. I guess my favorite team mascot would be the Philly Phanatic, I like the fact that it is big and green.

  3. The Phanatic, as explained in the article is loved by the whole city of Philadelphia. Because he is loved by the city I think it would be a good idea to allow fans to go to the stadium and see the Phanatic and hang out with him. They could also sell T-shirts with his image on them. Since people really seem to like him people would probably by them. Another thing they could do is have billboards and commercials with the Phanatic on them.

If you have a good mascot, then mascots can be helpful. They can improve ticket sales, and be a good face for the franchise. If people like the mascot then he can be very beneficial to the team, people may even by tickets just to see the mascot if they like him enough. My favorite mascot is probably the Patriot’s mascot, just because they are my favorite team, but I don’t know that I would go to a Patriot’s game just for the mascot though, I would want to go to see the patriots play.

  4. The article we read today was about the Philly mascot. To market him I would have booths set up where fans can take pictures with him. I would also have a better half time show where maybe a fan can come on the field and interact with him. He is very marketable. That’s how I would market him.
I think mascots are good for a team. I think that some teams should rethink what character they have representing there team. Like the Thunder have an ox, that is good because it is original. The big blue guy for the wizards is not a good mascot. It doesn’t really represent the team well. That is what I think of it.

  5. three main thing that i would do is first of all include the mascot because the mascot is always a good idea for a team.somethingelse that i would do is to make the tickets cheaper and that way the fans are going to want to come to the games.and the people that are not fans they are going to go to the games because of hoe cheap are the ticket.there are many things that you can do to get a team popular. i think that the phanatic as explaained in the article is going to make a difference in the whole team.i think that a mascot always makes a difference because every team has a mascot and if a team does not have a mascot then it losses popularity.the phanatic should make some impact on the team because if it doest they are going to loss money and time.so i think that the team is hoping for the phanatic to make some kind of impact on the team.

  6. My three point plan is to advertise to young people. I think the older generation already knows the mascot and the team. The younger population is the would be my target market. I would chose some big high school or college game to advertise to the young people. one other thing I would do is have the mascot interview in t.v shows. The morning shows and sport shows are watched by a lot of people so that would advertise to a lot of people.
Yes I do believe the mascot is very important. It puts a face to the team some thing the fans can remember. Its very important to selling tickets to fans. Also if the team uses the mascot in a good advertising way it can be very effective. It has worked for some sports and not other but if its working for a sport there is no need for change.

  7. One way to market the Philly Phanatic is by, making a stuffed animal of the Philly Phanatic for the kids. Kids love stuffed animals to play with them, sleep with them and even take it to places. Adults also buy them as souvenirs, to have them in their office, their car or anywhere in particular where people could see that they’re a fan of a certain team. Another way to market Philly Phanatic is by, making t-shirts with him on them. A lot of people like to buy shirts or a jersey that has to do with the team they go for. A third way to market Philly Phanatic is by having him sell things at the game so then people would go to where ever he is to see him.

I think it’s good to have a mascot because they represent the team. Mascots tell the fans to cheer for the team and when the fans cheer for teams they feel better because they know that there are people out there supporting them. I also think that they add value to the organization because the team gets more attention. If the mascot is active and joyful they get the love of the fans and when the mascot gets the love of the fans, the players of the team do as well. Some parents take their children to the games and the kids like to see the mascots. The more parents go with their kids, the more tickets are sold. I don’t have a favorite mascot in particular. What matters to me is the team and the way they play

  8. Paragraph #1
if i were to advertise a mascot i would have the mascot walk around in the stands and give fans entertainment other than just the game. i would also have the mascot take pictures with fans during a certain point in the game. also the mascot can have a restaraunt named after him to attract a lot of fans. those are my three points for advertising the mascot.
    Paragraph #2
i personally think that team mascots add a lot of value to a team. the reason i think that is because a lot of kids who go to the games get easily entertained and enjoy seeing the mascot at all times. my favorite mascot would have to be the wizards. the reason for that is because the wizards have two mascots. and both mascots are very energetic. they also entertain the crowd very well during half time. those are my thoughts on the effect of mascots on teams.

  9. I think what they are doing is good. I would have set up different events around the city where fans can come and meet the mascot. You could also have the mascot show up to schools around the city. Another good idea is to have him compete with another mascot from the city in a contest. The Philly mascot seems to being doing well and people seem to really love him.
I like the ideas of mascots in sports. They keep the fans interested and also keep everybody entertained. I don’t know how it is in other sports but in basketball the fans love the mascots. They keep things light during the game and fans have fun watching them do their antics. I think the idea of mascots were great.

  10. First I would announce that a new mascot was coming to Phillidelphia. I would show slight and quick images of the mascot on a commercial to gain attention. The next thing I would do is announce that on the next home game the first 500 people in the stadium get a free mascot doll. Lastly, I would have him do a 7th inning stretch performance where he plays with some of the Philly team and throws shirts to the crowd.

I think mascots are good for an organization. I think the are good because the attract fans as well as families to come. I strongly believe that mascots aid ticket sales positively. Many children will want to go to games to see the mascot and people will also buy more expensive seats to meet the mascot. My favorite team mascot was the originial Potomac Cannons mascot. He was a mascot with a cannon for a head but theyve now changed him to Uncle Sam. He's my favorite because he was the first mascot I ever met.

  11. For marketing the Philly Phanatics, I would advertise by magazine, blimps, commercials, etc. I would focus on the place where people go the most to watch a baseball or basketball or maybe football game. The people are what make the games happen because they pay to go and see the games. A lot of people like mascots because they dance around or do crazy stuff and it entertains there kids so they aren’t running around and getting into trouble.

I think that team mascots are a good idea because it entertains the crowds and I think they do add value on organizations because people not only go to games to see the players but to see the mascots. The mascots are very important to selling tickets.

  12. Philly Phanatic is the favorite mascot of of baseball and he is loved by everyone. They can sell clothing and accessories of Philly Phanatic, that would be a profitable strategy. Also they can make a place where kids can come in to meet Philly Phanatic, and he can entertain the children. Companies can also sponsor the mascot so he can sell companies products. By sponsoring Philly Phanatic would be a great demographic for baseball fans.
My thoughts on team mascots is that it is a very creative thoughts, also it stands the team in more advertising so the team gets help from the mascot because he advertises the team. They add big value to an organization because the mascot entertains the fans. They are very important to selling tickets because the fans love to see the mascot and it builds up their spirit. My favorite team is the Detroit Pistons and my favorite mascot is the Oregon college football mascot. I like the Pistons because my favorite player is in the team, Tracy Mcgrady, and my Favorite mascot is the Oregon mascot because he is funny and very entertaining and also he is funny when he does pushups.

  13. Three marketing activities I would focus on would be during half time two or three people get to come on the field with their mascot and take pictures or dance to a song with him, whatever would interest them because when you’re at a game and you’re into it you want to have fun. I would also advertise him on some kids magazines like Highlights or something and either make him front cover or a page in the magazine with a game or story about him included. And I would also have their mascot visit schools like elementary schools, high schools, and colleges; just to put him out there and help him interact with his fans more.
I think team mascots add value to an organization by adding that main factor of interaction between the team, the mascot, and their fans. Interaction is very important between fans and their team, and a mascot can appeal to many regardless of age. I also believe that they are very important in selling tickets, because fans know along with getting to see the game they also get to see the mascot. My favorite team mascot is Cincinnati Bengals Who Dey. Though they are not my favorite team, the mascot appeals to me because it always interacts with fans and is always fun.

  14. The are many ways i would market the mascot. One ways would be in the commercials for the team. Also have going around the city interacting with fans. Finally i would put the mascot on the tickets because a lot of people keep the am a suvanear. Those are the three main ways i would market him.

Mascots in general i think are a good idea. They do add value because the fans love them. no, i dont think they bring in many ticket sales but the fans do enjoy them so they are more of a enjoy the game aspect of the team. My favorite mascot is UGA for the University Of Georgia. I think overall he is the face of the football program there
