Sony Unveils the NGP, the Next Evolution of Portable PlayStation Hardware

As widely expected, Sony debuted their next mobile gaming device earlier today in Japan. Rumors have run hot and heavy over the last few months about what the so-called and elements of the PlayStation Meeting presentation have borne out some of the speculation.Codenamed NGP for Next Generation Portable, the handheld sports two analog joysticks, a purported first for such a gaming system. It also boasts a five-inch OLED touchscreen and a corresponding touch panel on the rear of the unit. The NGP's looks harken back to the first Playstation models, while The 3G connectivity that was first reported last year gets paired up with WiFi to create an ideally seamless online experience. Games (and presumably other content) will live on a new Flash cartridge format, which will co-exist in conjunction with digital distribution methods. The NGP's elongated oval look harkens back to the industrial design of the earliest PSP model, leaving the flat, compact aesthetics of the PSPGo to languish.

This new gaming device is really cool and has alot of new features. The NGP is a huge upgrade from the PSP becuase of the addition of a good wifi system and more. I do think this is a great product but i would probably wouldent buy it. I belive many will purchase it but i wont simply becuase it has come out a little to late, and i already have what i want. The NGP is a great product and will do just fine.
ReplyDeleteThe NGP will have a pretty large impact becuase its the newist and best portible gaming device. I can already predict the Microsoft as well as other companys are trying to match or do better than the NGP. They will try to make the same thing but with a few more additions or a lower price. I belive the NGP is a good product and if they can sell alot of them quickly there will be no reason for other companys to try to make them as well. The best thing for them to do is advertise.
I like this product. I like it because it’s different from every other handheld gaming device. (ex. Nintendo DS). I like the fact that it has a five inch OLED touch screen and a corresponding touch panel on the rear of the unit. Touch screen items are currently ‘in’ right now, and it’s also pretty cool to play a game without using the buttons for ‘up’ or ‘down’. I also like the fact that we’ll be able to go online to see what other players have been playing so we can get ideas of which games to play. I would consider purchasing this product because it’s new and versatile. I like the way it looks too, it looks very stylish and sleek. I think it would be entertaining to get to play games on it everyday & have the ability to go online whenever and wherever.
ReplyDeleteI think that this would make other companies try to come up with a new gaming system. It would make everyone start thinking of different ideas for their product so people can buy it. I think that competition in the gaming industry will increase. Over the next few months, you’ll see that Xbox has come up with another gaming console. I think that the current products that will be in NGP’s top competition would be the Wii and the Xbox kinect. There is about to be some serious competition in the gaming industry.

I like the new product. I like the new touch screen and that they went back somewhat to the origiinal psp shape. I also like the 5 inch screen because in my opinion, the bigger the screen the better the handheld device. I would definetly consider purchasing this item. Especially because the article mentioned online gameplay which is something I've always looked forward to with handheld devices. I would also want to purchase it because Im not at home that much, and the only time id be able to play videogames is on the go or outside my home. The only thing im concerned about is the price of the product. Im concerned it may be pver 200$ which would make me reconsider buying it.
ReplyDeleteThis will have a very big impact on the gaming industry because its the first handheld that is really bringing everything to the table. You have a touch screen, online gameplay, and most the games from the ps3 let alone excluse NGP games. Since this NGP has so many features that most consoles have, it will encoourage Microsoft and Nintendo to develop a better NGP. Although Microsoft has not developed a portable gaming device yet, I believe they will now that Sony's NGP is being released. I believe the Sony NGP's top competition is the Nintendo 3DS.

this new portable gaming system is nice because you get to take it anywhere you want and it will still work because its portable.most likely i would buy this devise because i like to listing to music and this devise is great to hear music.it also has a lot of new features that a regular game system doesnt have.i think that this product is a going to be a sell out because im sure that millions of teens and even adults are going to buy it.

ReplyDeletethink that the new PSP is going to be a very hot product when it gets released. by making the new PSP have a touch screen will also make it more popular because the itouch is a very popular product and it is becoming a little bit like it. also the capability of the PSP being able to use wi-fi and purchase games also makes it more convenient for the costumer. one thing that i am not to sure about is the touch panel on the back because i am not really sure what it does. this is an item i would consider purchasing but i am not really into hand held video game devices.

i think that the new PSP will have a good impact on the market. as far as competition though the product that the NGP will be competing with will be the new Nintendo DS's. the reason for that is because the XBOX360 and Nintendo Wii are to big of products for the NGP to have competition with. another device it might have competition with is the itouch. the reason for that is because it basically does everything an itouch does considering it has a touch screen now. those are my thoughts on the NGP being released.

ReplyDeleteGetting more informed about this new project, was interesting. In my perspective there are more positive things than negative. At first, I though it was an old product or one that I saw before because it had a common color, size and shape. Well, in the future when the product gets popular and people would be ready to buy it, it’ll be hard to difference with the other old products. Well hat being negative side, we can also see the benefits. The product is new and has new features and options it may have an opportunity.
The impact that will bring to the market today is that people will have the opportunity to buy new things and they can continue with their brand. That helps out a lot since it’s SONY and I’ve heard good comments on the case. Hopefully it will bring competition the other products also because it’s an NGP.

The new PSP to me is awesome and very futuristic. It’s the next step in electronics and its going to be awhile before anything tops this product. I like that it is touch screen, has a camera in the rear and front, doesn’t slide like the PSP before, and it has wifi connectivity. I would consider buying this product but with all these cool features I know for a fact it is going to be very expensive. This PSP is much more than a game system and anyone doesn’t want one has to be crazy it is like PS3, and computer in the palm of your hand. If I had a job I would most definitely but it.
ReplyDeleteWhen this product hits the stores in the states I know there will be very long lines, maybe even into the parking lots of stores. People who liked earlier PSP’s will definitely buy this one because it is newer and way more improved. It will be the best handheld gaming device to ever be made in my mind and it’s just more than a gaming device it’s also a internet capable device thing. I think the 4th generation iPod Touch is the NGP PSP’s top competition but I think it will top its sales by hundred of thousand sales. The only reason this is its only competition is because it has a rear and front camera, it is wifi capable and is also handheld but the new PSP can do much more.
This new product is really nice. I’ve always been a gamer and I think that the NGP will be successful. I would definitely buy it if I had the money. It’s slim, portable and has wifi. It has a nice screen and it's lightweight. I would purchase this product because it's great to have something to play when you’re on the go.

Other gaming companies like Microsoft and Nintendo will have to step up. Microsoft came out with the kinetic. Nintendo is well known for the Wii and DSi. I have a feeling that Microsoft is going to make something portable like the NGP. The Itouch is also getting popular because its aps and its free wifi.
My thoughts of this product is that it wont last that long in the market.Alot of people have gotten bored from the psp and it is just dull now.Kids rather play the playstation 3 game system at home and in my opinion it is much funner. Theres already been two psps and also a psp go and those they were just played for little while.i wouldent consider purchasing this product because it doesnt really have eye pooping features or mouthdropping technology.
ReplyDeletethe potential impact that might have on the gaming industry is that it might sell for a while becuase it is the new gaming portable device. the only reason this will be hype is becuase it is a new playstation portable but after a period of time it will be just any old psp portable. the current products that will be competative with will be the itouch or the iphone. And they need to get alot creative then this because apple is a very umroaring company.

I think that the new PSP is going to be really good. I like that it has two analog sticks and the its touch screen. The analog sticks are going to make it easier to play some of the games. The graphics should be really good too, which is going to help when people want something like a PS3 but in a handheld version. I think that this is going to be a good thing.

Their biggest competition would be if Microsoft made a handheld device. Although they will probably realease it later, I think that this PSP is going to be better. Their biggest competition at this moment is the Ipod Touch 4th generation. I think that this PSP is going to be better then its competitors.

ok! sony came out with this product 5 years ago! back when they was doing numbers. honestly, at that time the psp didnt have the features that it has now that allowed kids to play it anytime and anywhere. For example, sony added new features to the psp witch makes gaming snd media for it easier, they also droped the price to 169 back when it was really 250$. i would consider buying this if i was younger but now it dosent amuse me anymore with all the other technology out there. I rather play with big boy toys!
ReplyDeleteThe impact this product will have is major! it will have a major impact on the young teens between the ages of 9-13, witch are pre teen years. Sony is actually smart for making sony psp better then it was from falling off 5 years ago. All i have to say is dont call it a come back!

This new product seems like it would do well with all it's new features and how it's going to be debuted in Japan on a holiday. I like that there's two analog joy sticks, a five inch panel, a touch panel, wi-fi, and built in GPS. I personally wouldn't purchase it because I don't play games like that, but i'm sure it'll sell pretty well since most guys do play games, along with kids.

I think this product is awsome and very inovative. I am definetly going to purchase one. What I like is the 3g system and the wifi because it is going to constantly update itself and is limitless in online activity. Also this will be a huge step for sony.

Not only is it going to be a new system out it is going to force other companies to step up their game and make even better systems. When they do it is just going to keep progressing the gaming industry. The only things i think it is going to compete with currently is the 3d ds and the newest ipod touch but the NGP is going to get more competition in the future.
I personally like the Sony psps. I have the 2nd generation psp and I thought it was really good. I didn’t like the 3rd generation that much they changed from disk games to online games. They also made it very small. A lot of people were not happy with the 3rd generation look I think that why they went back to the old look. In the new psp I like the touch screen and the size of the screen. They also have to two joysticks witch is pretty cool. They one thing I didn’t like is they don’t have an antiglare screen which would have been good when you play in a car or out side.

The psp’s competition is Nintendo dc with is pretty big among kids. They should be able to do good because they offer different kinds of games

The new PSP is pretty cool. I had the first PSP, I had a lot of fun with it, but it wasn't great. It seems that Sony is following the lead of other companies like Apple who make portable touch screen devices. I could definately see myself buying the device, but I probably won't, it really depends on the price of it. The name NGP is also pretty cool. Its something that is easy to say, and it just sounds cool.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the newest Nintendo DS is called, but that will probably be the NGPs biggest competition. The two products are pretty much the only portable touch screen devices of their kind. However, the iPod Touch which also has a touch screen is a portable device of another kind. Instead of focusing on disk or cartridge-based games the iPod focuses on downloadable apps. I can see the iPod causing Sony tremendous problems as it seems everyone has an iPod now, and the vast majority of people are happy with them. I don't think the NGP will impact the gaming industry much, because it really doesn't bring anything to original to the table.
