Sony Unveils the NGP, the Next Evolution of Portable PlayStation Hardware

Codenamed NGP for Next Generation Portable, the handheld sports two analog joysticks, a purported first for such a gaming system. It also boasts a five-inch OLED touchscreen and a corresponding touch panel on the rear of the unit. The NGP's looks harken back to the first Playstation models, while The 3G connectivity that was first reported last year gets paired up with WiFi to create an ideally seamless online experience. Games (and presumably other content) will live on a new Flash cartridge format, which will co-exist in conjunction with digital distribution methods. The NGP's elongated oval look harkens back to the industrial design of the earliest PSP model, leaving the flat, compact aesthetics of the PSPGo to languish.

I think its a good thing to make. i think the it will sell alot of them. its flat and portable which is great for people to want to buy for thier kids. it has more features to he new device that the old psp didnt have. people would like to buy this product cause it has the appearance that people are looking for.
ReplyDeletei think this type of gaing device can put some small company product out of business unless they come up with something similiar or better. i think wants it hits the stores in the US or other products are going to be forgot about.Like gameboy advances, ipod,ipads, and DS.

this seems like a good product. it seems as if they put a lot of though into the creation of this device. it looks really nice and the new features make it more functional than the last one. i like that it is touch screen most of the new technology is becoming touch screen. also that it is going to be 3G because the internet will work better on them and function better. i wouldnt personally buy this becuase i dont really play video games very often so it would kinda be a waste of money for me.
ReplyDeletethis device is going to have a huge impact on the industry. now its competitors will have to figure out a way to catch up and pass sony in deswign and functionality. there are not many other hand held gaming devices that compete with sony and the PSP and now the NGP. but right now the nintendo DS is the only major competition of sony and the ngp that i know about right now. but even the isnt really as technologically advanced as sony and its ngp.

My initial thoughts on this prodcut is tight! I would buy this if it was in the USA. I would buy this because im in into the gaming system stuff. It intrest me because I like to play video games. Plus i have to stay updated with the new technology.

Plus the system will have to deal with the compettion like playstation and whoever created the DS and etc. But right now the hype is the NGP. Plus lots of kids will like it since this generation is into this type of technology. This target marketing is towardds kids/ teenagers.

My initial thoughts on this product was this is going to be a big time selller in the US. I like the new slim look to it. PSP are always kind of fat and heavy and now they have this new flat screen look.Although it seems to be a very good product and i really love it, its not somthing i woyuld buy. Mainly because im not into the PSP. But i do see this being one of the top selling products in the US.
ReplyDeleteI dont think this new product will have such a significant impact on the gaming industry.ALthough it has all these nice feauters, Some people like me , might see it as just another PSP. It dosent seem to be a major change exppect better gaiming and slimer. Its main competition today would probally be the Ipad. Thats blowing up in the markets and i see it hard for this new gaming device to competete with that.

I think it's great that they are advancing their products in this way, since technology and gaming systems are always changing. I like that they are adding better qualities to it, and I dislike that it's still kind of big. I wouldn't consider purchasing it for a few reasons. First, I don't have playstation anything, I have an XBOX (old school, not 360) and a Wii, and I am fine with both of those, and I also do not play enough to where I would need to carry it around with me all the time. It's better for younger kids and mainly guys of all ages.
ReplyDeleteIt might impact the gaming industry by people either buying it and neglecting other systems and stomping out competition OR it will do alright and just become a regular in the mix, OR it will completely flop and not even touch any other systems. The top competition will probably be any other handheld gaming devices or even the wii or kinect and new motion games that all companies are creating. Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell.

Based on what i see from the NGP, it looks amazing. Personally, I loved the PSP original, that it was portable gaming, and I like to play video games. I would consider buying it but I have to see a demonstration of the NGP and its capability. They have made some new additions and enhancements so it's much better than the original PSP and the others before it. I like that they sitched back to the original model, made the screen bigger, added another joy stick, and also have touch screen capability. It really makes the product more appealing to customers.
ReplyDeleteI think it will have a big effect on the gaming industry since it seems so amazing. At a reasonable price, like $200, I think a lot of people will buy it. Since the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are getting old and boring, people will want a new thing. Especially since it is portable, more people will play it because they can play on the go. The competition the NGP wil have is the Nintendo 3DS, but I don't think it will be much a competition since the DS doesnt offer as much to customers and it is looked upon as a kids device. The DS was inferior to the PSP and I tink it will be the same with the 3DS and the NGP.
I like the NGP mainly because its touch screen. It also has wifi, these two luxuries distinguish the NGP from the PSP. I like the NGP because its like an itouch and a psp put together. I like it because its portable and easy to manuever. I wouldn't buy the NGP because i don't play games that often but i would've a few years ago. I would buy it for my nephew or niecer or a younger family member.

The NGP's only top competition would either be the Itouch, Nintendo DS or the PSP. The Itouch is the most popular handheld device and the PSP/ Nintendo DS are the most popular handheld gaming devices.

I think this product is going to be a really nice and cool product. I think its gonna have a lot of technology and a lot of cool features. The only thing i didnt like about it was the way it looks. It looks a little like the older one, but im sure it doesnt function the same and way more improved. I would probably purchase this product because i have the older one.
ReplyDeleteI think this gaming product will be very good at first. But as time passes by it wont be as good. The only competition this gaming product has is PS3 and Xbox360. Those two consoles have been on top for the past few years. This gaming console will be great for younger kids because they actually have time on their hands.

My thoughts on the new PSP is that that is a going to be the future. It has many of the latest technology installed in it, such as 3G and two joysticks, though I don't understand what the touch-pad on the back is for. I would definitely buy this once it comes out.

My initial thought on this product was that it is very similar to the PSP. Once I read into the article my intial thoughts changed quickly. I like that this product has so many new features that most gaming systems don’t have available. I like the two analog sticks, the 3G coverage, and touch screen. The thing I don’t like about this gaming system is that the look is very similar to the PSP. As a customer I would want something a little sleeker and thinner.
ReplyDeleteThis new gaming product will most likely have a big impact on the gaming industry. It is a new portable gaming system that includes features that most don’t have. It will take attention away from others, especially since a new portable gaming product has not came out in a while. It’s competition will be the PSP, Nintendo DSi’s, and Gameboys. There will be competition especially with the DSi because they also have a touch screen and webcam installed, but is not nearly as advanced as the NGP.
This new product by sony is a great source of marketing and will help the company in the long run. This will create great competition between other products that have already been made such as the DS or Ipod. For one, I will probably be looking into more details about this product as a consumer myself. It bothers me that there are so many products out there and they just continue to make more... Its a rip off. This is a great strategy for companies though. I definitly feel this could be a success but may end up having some flaws with could cause a deflation for the sony industry.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, the marketing acquired by this new product will create great competition for potential mp3 devices, or other portable gaming electronics. The only concern potential buyers may have is whether or not it has an easy to follow layout and is pretty straightforward to work with. Complexity is very easy to come by with these types of products and if there is a lot, low ratings are inevitable.

This product is very cool and it is something i would love to own. I like how it not only has the joysticks and the buttons but it also has a touch screen. This means you will probably be able to play the same games that are in the Apple/Droid app store. The one thing i think will be a problem for this product is that it is to big and the joysticks would make it difficult to fit in your pocket. I would definately buy one of these because i could play all types of games on it.
ReplyDeleteI think this product has the potential to dominate the protable gaming industry. Having the touch screen and all of the buttons of control make it a lot better than an itouch, ipad, or Nintendo DS. The only problem it might have is the games. It will have plent of great games that came out for the psp but if it cant play games like doodlejump or angry birds then it wouldnt have that much success with everyday people. Unless it can play games online, if that's the case then this might be the next big thing.

This new Playstation system is a good idea to sell because I’d buy it for its use of portability. I also like the size it’s small but has a nice 5 inch screen and it has 3G coverage. I’d compare this product to the I-touch because it has all the same features and since the itouch is successful I believe the NGP will be also. I don’t like how you have to buy individual games for the system. It’s also good for watching videos and movies so I would consider purchasing the product.
ReplyDeleteThe potential impact this new product might have on the gaming industry is a overall 3G standard on all gaming devices. Also every gaming device will have to include a camera and video to keep up with competition to sell their product. As I said in the first paragraph the NGP’s top competition is the Itouch which offers many of the same features. Since they both are around the same product it comes down to who has the better marketing campaign. If I was marketing the NGP I would advertise how it’s new and the 3G capability.

The Next Generation Playstation Portable will be the best upgrade to the Playstation Portable series. This new product called the NGP is definitely the next generation. It not only has two joys sticks now but also has a touch screen, touch pad and a digital camera. I like these new upgrades but the downgrade could grow to be the cartridge style gaming instead of storing them on the 16GB internal hard drive. It’s a lot easier to have all your games saved on your device good part about the cartridge is the fact that you can now share games and rent them instead of only buying. I would consider purchasing this product. I’m not sure how long down the lines I will wait before purchasing the NGP because the prices will be high and the quality may not be.
ReplyDeleteThe NGP’s definitely has a potential to impact the gaming industry. NGP's top competition would probably be the PSP Go. After that the next competing product would be the Nintendo DS series. The PSP Go has a smaller figure and a built in hard drive. The DS series has a camera and touch screen applications. I cant wait to see how the NGP turns out, I hope it’s a great success.
My initial thought about the new Sony NGP is that this product is a cool system for kids who loves to play video games. The things that I like about this product is the touch screen capability and the 3G network wifi connections. The only thing that I dislike about this product is thew design of the NGP. I would definitely purchase this product once it comes in stores because of the capabilities it has on this system. Since I have an old PSP system I would also like to buy this product.
ReplyDeleteWhen the NGP goes out in stores there will be a lot of competition with all the gaming systems such as the Xbox 360, Wii, etc. I believe that there will be a large number of people that will buy this product because how high-tech it is with the touch screen on the back. Currently Xbox 360 is one of the best product because when it came out in stores a lot people bought this product and since they created the Kenect with their console, people are still buying this system. Another competition that the NGP has is the Nintendo DS because this is also a portable device and this product is also has touch screen capability. Even though the NGP has a little of competition, this product will become the next best device that people will love and enjoy.

My initial thoughts on the new Sony product is that it is nice a something different. The only thing is that they have to watch out for little kids because they will rip it into pieces easily. I really like this product. I say that because it has two screens and it is a touch screen at that. The screen in the back an in the front will make it easier to play with. Also they added new joy sticks to its which will make the controlling a lot easier especially for certain games they have out. Overall I really like this product it is something that I will consider buying on my own.

I say this because other companies will try to come out with something better just so the other product won’t have as many sells as they have. The products that the NGP will compete with is the DS they just came out with something new. Also they are competing with maybe them itouch or the ipad because they are touch screen also. Overall I really think the NGP will blow any other product out of the water.
