Advanced SEM Blog Assignment # 4 (25 points)

The NBA’s Most ValuableTeams

From Forbes.com

The average NBA team is now worth $369 million, 1% more than last year. But several of the league’s 30 teams have not fully recovered from the recession, and as a result values are still 2.6% below the $379 million peak average they hit two years ago.

No player in the 64-year history of the National Basketball Association has come close to having the immediate and profound impact that LeBron James had when he bolted the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat this summer. The King’s move accounted for both the biggest gain and drop in team values: the Heat’s worth increased 17%, to $425 million (seventh among the NBA’s 30 teams), and the Cavaliers plummeted 26%, to $355 million (15th).

  1. this article is pretty suprising. the amount a player is worth and how that can impact the total value of a teams worth. it suprising with the jump in the heats value that they are still seventh among the teams most valuable teams. the amount of difference in the value of the team veries greatly. it is suprising how the value of the team depends on so many factors and one of the biggest factors is players.

the most suprising thing to me is that the heat are not on top to the most valued teams. also that the lakers and knicks are valued at $655 million. it is suprising that the heat are valued at over $200 million less than the lakers and knicks. also it suprises me how much the value has jumped just because of the trade of lebron james. overall it is just suprising how big of an impact a player can make on the value of a team.

  2. When I first read this article i was like wow! I knew Lebron James was worth alot of money but not that much. When he left Clevland and went to Miami, Miami increased 17%. And Cleveland lost 26% percent of the whole organizations money. Lebron is a monster and he makes it happen. When its comes to sales nhe makes it happen.

There are many major points to this article. One being when the Cavaliers lost James they lost the heart of thier money. When the Heat acquired James they are making more money than ever. Another thing i find intrseting that Lebron James caused the biggest drop and gain in team vaule. And one more suprising fact is that the heat are worth over 200 million less than the knicks and Lakers.

  3. This article is discussing the most recent top NBA teams. The economy has affected the profits being made. The top NBA team is worth $369 million and main players have alot of affect on the net value of the team. I found it interesting that LeBron James cause the biggest drop and gain in team value.

The most surprising fact on this article was thta one player could affect a team in such a way that he did. Also, the fact that no other player has affected any team like LeBron did. It is also pretty surprising that just one NBA team could be worth $369 dollars. I did not know that the teams were affected that heavily by the recession. The last surprising fact was that The New York Knicks are replacing The Lakers as the NBA's most valuable team because they have not been sold out since the 2001 season.

  4. Each team is worth almost about 369Million. they went up 1% from last year. 30 of the NBA teams are still recovering from the recession.still 2.6% below the peak average which happened 2 years ago. i think this is really important because it shows how the Economic part of the NBA is doing due to changes of the economy.

The Heat went up in how much the team is worth by adding lebron james to there roster. The caveliers went down in value due to the loss of lebron James.that loss put them 15 of team values. By the kings moving it balanced the biggest gain and drop for team values.

  5. This article talks about the change in value for the different teams in the NBA. The value of many teams dropped especially the Cleveland Cavaliers whose value drop is the worst in NBA history. Other teams like the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks value rose significantly. Because of a player or two, a whole team's value can either decrease or increase in which Lebron James's transaction to the Heat significantly lowered the Cavaliers value but increased the Heat's value.

The most surprising thing i read was that the Lebron James trade caused the greatest impact on a team in NBA history. Since he left, the Cavaliers have not been selling enough tickets and they have a big losing season. Ever since Lebron James has been playing for the Miami Heat, the have become the second best team in the Eastern Conference and have had season tickets sold out. It's amazing how much one player could do to a team.

  6. The article is talking about how the average team in the NBA is worth 369 million dollars. That is 1% more than it was last year. A part that I found most interesting was how the average team is worth so much money. I want to know what it takes for a team to cost that much. Also two years ago it was 379 million like that’s a lot of money for a team.

What I found most surprising was that the NBA has been around for 64 years. I thought it was around way longer than that but I guess not. Another thing that surprised me was how Lebron left during the summer of 2010 and the CAVS dropped drastically. The heat went up 17% for a worth of 425 million. That’s ranked number 7th throughout all 30 teams, and the cavs dropped 26% leaving them with 355 million.

  7. This article is talking about the values of NBA teams. NBA teams are still suffering from the recession but they are improving. The team's values are up 1% from last year. The NBA is slowly working its way of of the bad economy. Also the exchanges of players have changed teams value significantly.

LeBron James has made a big impact on the NBA. Not just on the playing side but also the paying side. Miami's value increased 17% while Clevland's went down 26%. Amar'e Stoudamire has made a big impact for the Knicks value as well. The Knicks are the highest valued team in the NBA. Now with the addition of Carmelo Anthony and their recent success they will probably stay at the top of the list.

  8. This article talked about the value of NBA teams and how the value increased from last year. Also how the lower market teams value isnt as high because of the recession. The big market teams like the Lakers,Knicks,Heat values are above average becasue of he star power on the team and the locations. What i fount most intresting is how big of a dropoff in value the caveliers had since lebron left.
It wasnt suprising how high the value of the Miami heat got with lebron. Its already a big market being in miami. Cleavend isnt a big market team. One of the lowest value teams in the NBA. But im still suprised they only 15 with no superstar. Its very suprinsiing to me.

  9. This article is explaining the values of many NBA teams, saying the top team is worth $369 million. The economy has affected all the teams to drop 2.6% in value the past 2 years. It also explains thats that a single star player can affect a teams value, such as Lebron James leaving Cleveland for Miami, causing the biggest drop and gain for teams in NBA history. although some teams are getting a profit, 17 of 30 teams reported a loss in revenue.
I found two points in the story being surprising. I didnt know 17 teams reported losses, since I expected the NBA to be always profiting from sales and merchandise. I didnt know times were this tough for NBA teams and it was this badly affected by the economy. Another point that surprised me was the fact that LeBron single handedly made the biggest loss and gain in NBA history. I knew he had a huge impact on both teams but I didnt the impact was that big.

  10. This article is discussing how LeBron James makes a big difference in the NBA team wise. When LeBron left the Cavs they became the worst team in the NBA but when he was on the team, they were in the top 5 and made it to the playoffs. LeBron was a big drop for the Cavs.

When LeBron James went to the Heat he also made an impact but it wasnt only him. The Heat had Wade and Bosh also scoring a lot. LeBron had a big contract with the Heat and is making a lot of money with them too. The Heat had an impressive win streak in the NBA. Their win streak was about 25 games.

  11. In the article, The NBA most valuable Teams, talks about the teams who is worth a lot such as the major players who has been traded to these teams. For example Lebron James and the Miami Heat, once James went to that team the Miami Heat’s worth increased 17%, to $425 million (seventh among the NBA’s 30 teams), and the Cavaliers plummeted 26%, to $355 million (15th). The five key points in this article is the price, how much money the teams dropped from the “recession,” NBA players who transfer from different teams and increased their value, and the most valuable teams in the NBA. I find that the fact about the New York Knicks in the article is really interesting because, New York Knicks replace the Los Angeles Lakers as the NBA’s most valuable team, worth $655 million, up 12% from last year. Since the Knicks signed Amar’e Stoudemire to their team, that has been a big help for them and sponsors. I also think this is interesting because New York Knicks is my favorite basketball team.
The things that I found in the article that was surprising to me was the fact about the bad economy and few suspect market drained profitability during the 2009 season because of the low ticket receipts. Another interesting thing that also surprised me was that Ted Leonsis purchased the 56% of the Washington Wizards and Verizon Center that he did not already own, plus the Baltimore-Washington D.C. Ticketmaster franchise, in a deal that put a value on the whole enterprise of $551 million. This was shocking to me because I didn’t know that he did that. One other fact was surprising to me was the commissioner David Stern wants to lop $750 million off of player costs, lowering the portion of basketball-related revenue that goes to players from 57% to around 40%.

  12. I thought it was interesting that the NBA is worth 1% more this year as opposed to this year. I think it is because of all the NBA trades occurring these days. I also thought it was itneresting that the Knicks have been so popular this year. I think Amare has been essential in the growing popularity of the Knicks and with the edition of Melo. It seals them ontop of the league as the most popular.
The five most surprising things Ted Leonsis bought 56% of the team (Wizards). Also that noone wants to buy the Pistons and the Hornets because the lack of talent. It also suprised me that the Heat are worth $425 million. I think the knicks will remain ontop.

  13. The average NBA team is worth $369 million and still on the rise. In the NBA’s 64 years of existence no other player has affected a team as much as LeBron James had. With LeBron’s move to the Heat, he raised the Heat’s worth 17% and dropped the Cavs worth 26%. After the Knicks signed Amare Stoudmire and traded for Carmelo Anthony their teams worth sky rocketed also. Fans are excited about these new changes.
The most surprising point in the article was how important LeBron James was to the teams he was on and the NBA itself. This is surprising because he made drastic changes between teams and that changed how much the team was worth by millions of dollars. The fact that one player can do that is shocking and shows how much money and focus is placed on one player.
