College bowl games expected to bring $420 million to Valley

College-football fans are expected to pump more money into Valley hotels, restaurants and other businesses during the coming three bowl games than in past years, despite the sluggish economy. The three games will be played in a two-week span that begins Dec. 28.

Glendale hosts Auburn and Oregon in the BCS National Championship and Connecticut and Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium, and Tempe hosts Missouri and Iowa in the Insight Bowl.
A higher-profile matchup in the Insight Bowl, the smallest of the three, is expected to boost out-of-town visitors and economic impact, Fiesta Bowl Chairman Duane Woods said.

  1. At a bowl game there a hundreds of ways that a fan can spend money, in the stadium and out. One key way other than tickets is obviously going to be concessions and fanwear inside the stadium. While the game and gear bring in the fans, its the small events that keep themt there for more than a day, for example, the bowl game have tons of interactive games inside of the stadium and out. Outside of the stadium they have tons of restaurants and various places to go and create a good atmosphere.
The fan attendance is so important because otherwise it would not bring any money to the area and just bring it to the stadium from advertising. Without attendance no one would rent hotels, go to restaurants or go shopping around the area. The bowl game I am looking forward to the most is the BCS championship game simply because Auburn and Oregon are both undefeated and extremely skilled, it will make a very good game and many will look forward to it.

  2. Bowl games have many, many things fans can spend their money on. Anything from ticket sales, to team socks. Fans can spend money on many things, and the sales will benefit the surrounding area. Local businesses will profit greatly if they decide to advertise there products and sell to tourists, and fans. Bowl events are things that fans can look foward to, like a party or a sponsored event during or after the game.

Fans attending the game id the most important part of bowl games, and events. Without fans, there is no money flowing into the community hosting the bowl. Fans who attend will definately spend there money on food, a place to stay, and maybe even stuff from the team stores. I want to see the BCS championship game, i like watching competitive teams compete and in the championship game the level of competeing is on a different level.

  3. Bowl games are expected to reach a huge sum of money this year. There are many ways money is spent at these big events. One major factor in the revenue is the tourism that brings money into the area. Another reason is the memorabilia sales that occur outside the stadium and in the stores surrounding them are substantial. Another reason, and maybe the biggest and most important reason money is spent is the concessions. People like to buy food at these events because they will be there for a while and most likely would like some refreshments while they are cheering for their team.

Attendance is huge at these games and is a main reason they are so popular to watch. If I hear that 80,000 people will be at a stadium to watch a big football game, I am most likely to watch on TV, which translates into millions of viewers. Those millions of viewers translate into high network ratings, which go into sponsorship deals. That sponsor money is a huge source of revenue for the NCAA and the major networks that televise them. In all, bowl games are a huge part of American sports, as well as a great boost for the economy.

  4. There are hundreds of ways a fan can spend money at a bowl game. While lots of money is going to concessions and fan gear instead of just the tickets the stadium is doing good. There are many games at the stadium so its not just the gear bringing in the fans its also the entertainment and fun value that is involved in the stadium and its workings. The fans attending the stadium are an important factor because if fans don’t come in then the stadium gets no money its plain and simple fact that this is. No one would go to the hotels or restaurants or stores to buy souvenirs so thus there would be no profit. I look forward to all the bowl games because they are all awesome.

  5. Money is spent in many ways during a college bowl game. People spend money on the ticket itself. But people also spend money on food and refreshments. People also spend money on parking. That is how money is spent during a bowl game.
Attendance is important for many reasons. Some students of the college playing in the bowl may want to cheer on their classmates. It may be the first time that a school is going to a bowl and people don’t want to miss it. Also dedicated fans would not want to miss that kind of game. That is why attendance is so important

  6. The way money is spent is the staff salary. They have to pay the staff members hosting the game. Another thing they spent on is commercial. I think commercial is one of the most spent thing for an event. If you want attendance to go up you have to show a lot of people. Advertisements are also another thing that is spent on to spread the word.
Attendance is an important thing for a business because that’s what keeps the business alive. More attendance means more revenue for the business. If the business has a lot of money it can benefit them and other people. It can benefit other people because what they can see at halftime or it’s a good job opportunity. The bowl game I am looking forward to the most is the BCS championship game simply because Auburn and Oregon are both undefeated and extremely skilled, it will make a very good game and many will look forward to it.

  7. There are tons of ways that money is spent at big time bowl games. The main thing I think is the apparel. At every bowl game there are people that come to watch not because they are fans of either team but for the experience. It’s like the Super Bowl of college and like the Super Bowl many people go not only cause they are fans of the team competing in it but because they love the bowl. This causes fans to want souvenirs such as t-shirts or hats, items that almost everyone that goes to the game will purchase. Another event that I think will attract fans is the ESPN show that they have right outside the stadium before all the big bowl games. This is a chance for fans to see the actual live show of what they are used to watching on their television. Also the specific events that will take place the week of the games will help the fans that are going to the game see more of the city and know more about the place where the game is taking place.
I think the importance of selling tickets is a lot for the money purposes but also to keep the hype up about the game. If the Orange Bowl sells more tickets than the BCS National Championship then something is wrong and it will most likely decrease the tickets sales in years to come. This year the bowl I am most looking forward to is the Rose Bowl mainly because one of the teams in that game is TCU. A team that is undefeated and hasn’t really been tested yet this season. I am looking forward to see this because this will be one of the first out of conference teams they have played and if they win it could help the schools in the lower conferences have a greater chance of making the bowl game.

  8. Money is spent at bowl games in a lot of ways. Money is spent by the fans for buying the ticket, food, drinks, apparel and parking space. Money is also spent with the advertising and promotion of the bowl game. Certain bowl events like the halftime show play a big role in the success of the bowl game. It also shows the creativity of the community.
Attendance is important because without attendance, is like without money. Seats being filled is money being filled into pockets. Without much attendance, people who tune into the game, will see that it wasn’t worth people’s time so they’ll decide that It isn’t worth theirs either. The bowl game I’m looking most forward to is the BCS National Championship Game with Auburn and Oregan. Cam Newton has been unstoppable this year and so has LaMichael James and the Oregan Duck’s offense but something has got to give.

  9. Money is spent in various different ways when there are bowls. They are spent through sponsorship, television ratings, ticket sales, food sales, hotel prices, etc. There are many different ways, and they all make an immense amount of money; ticket sales and sponsorship especially. My estimated ticket price for bowl games is probably somewhere between 50-70 dollars. If each game sells about 100,000 tickets, they make more than 5,000,000 dollars. Sponsorship also makes a great amount of cash. Some sponsors, depending on how large they are, are willing to spend more than $10 million just to sponsor a game. Another great money maker is the hotel prices. When the hotels make money, so does Valley. Two bowl events going on are the street festival and the aerospace challenge. There is not much describing the two but from what I can tell, they are going to generate a lot of money.

Attendance is so important to the bowls because it is how they generate a large sum of their income. Not only do they make a lot of money from sponsorships and television ratings, they also make a lot of money from ticket sales, food sales, and hotel prices. If no one attends the games, then how are they going to make any money? If no one attends the game, then no one buys tickets. If no one buys tickets, then no one buys food. If no one buys the food or the ticket, then the hotels will generate much less money. It’s as simple as that. The bowl that I am looking forward to the most this year is the champ sports bowl. The college that I want to go to when I graduate from high school is WVU. Because WVU is playing in the champ sports bowl, I am looking forward to that game the most. On December 28th, I am going to watch WVU win the champ sports bowl.

  10. Money is spent a lot of different was during bowl games. One way is in the hotels, people need a place to stay. Another thing people spend money on is food, people tail game for at least 2 hours before and 2 hours after the game. People also spend money on apparel. These games bring a lot of people to towns and with the people come a lot of money.
Attendance is very important in bowl games. One reason is that bowl games are all about sponsors. If there is no one in the stadium the people who are advertizing wont be able to get there message out. The game I’m looking forward to is the range bowl. My whole family is Virginia Tech. This game is going to be a really good game and we thing that tech will get the win.

  11. There is many ways to spend money in the game and outside of the game. First off, the concessions draw in many people because people tend to watch football while eating or drinking. Another thing is sports gear sold around the stadium. Many people like to buy shirts and other apparel to represent there team. Outside of the stadium they put many restaurants so after the game families go grab something to eat. Those are just some of the many ways money is spent at a game.
Attendance is one of the most important aspects of making money from a game. Without people, you make no money. The more the people there, the more money your gonna make from concessions, stores and restaurants. I'm mostly looking forward to the BCS National Championship Bowl because i want to see Auburn whoop on Oregon.

Money at a bowl game can be spend by buying something at there stores like merchandise. Also you can buy food at the game like drinks or food like Hot dogs, nachos, cheeseburgers, and soda like coke, root beer, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper , Mountain dew, Sunkist they also would have beer. These Bowl games could bring a lot of money to the community where that stadium is located. They could get money by people from where they eat to where they will sleep that night like what hotel. Also even after the bowl games people could go there because that’s where the game was played and they want to see what it is like there.

It is very important to attendance because if there are not a lot of people at the game than they will not make lot of money on food because than less people are buying anything but if it was a sellout than a lot of people would be buying food. Than the companies that put there names on the stadium will not get anything because you will not know about it cause you didn’t see it. The bowls that im looking forward to is the Penn State Nittany lions Vs. the Florida Gators and that’s called the Outback Bowl sponsored by Outback steakhouse I want to see that game because Penn State is my favorite Team. Also im looking forward to the Bcs Championship Game I want to see how the Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton can do I have never seen him play and I think hes a good player.

  13. Money is spent at bowl games in many different ways. There are labor costs, electricity costs, water costs and many more costs. One thing that is different from bowl games and professional football is that they have to pay their players. This is a cost that doesn’t exist in college football. This may be because professional football is more popular and the fact that the players are better. The community is very important in the equation of having a successful bowl game. They must hype up the game and get people excited for the event.

Attendance is very important for multiple reasons. The companies want to make money and the main way to do that is to sell tickets. Also the amounts of fans affect how the players play. If there is no one there to support you on a cold day or night this could be depressing. I am the most excited for the Military Bowl because it is in our hometown and it is a school that I might potentially go to. I might go to the Military Bowl but we’ll see.

  14. Money is spent many different ways at a bowl game. First off when you go to a game most people get thirsty and hungry so some of the money is spent on concessions. Also when a fan goes to a bowl game taking a souvenir home is a must. Sometimes people go to the bowl unprepared because they just go with friends and they don’t have spirit wear, so some people buy jerseys and t-shirts while they are there. People that travel away from home to see the bowl games spend money out in the community also which contributes to sales there. Hotels, restaurants, gas stations. All of these are things that travelers use and when as traveler travels to go see a bowl game this is where they spend their money.

Attendance is important because people that watch the game at home are not buying things at the game. A lot of profit comes from what is sold at the game. In some cases the bowl tickets are only $30, but once your at the game you spend $130 on merchandise. That is a big difference if a lot of people do not go. The bowl game that I am looking forward to watching the most is the Orange bowl because Syracuse is a school that my dad went to and also I am planning on going to, and some of my friends got in to Virginia Tech so it will be fun to see who wins.

  15. When it comes to the numerous bowl games played in January, there are many ways these games make money, besides the actual game. Things like souvenirs come into play at these bowl games, where the fans want to take a piece of the game home with them. Another factor that comes into play is the many other attractions in the stadium. Things like a college football challenge, which gives kids chance to be like their favorite player. Or simple things like the various concession stands located all over the stadium. When it comes to bowl games, no one leaves the game unsatisfied. A lot of fans enjoy going to bowl games because, it is not just the experience of watching the game, but it’s the experience of enjoying everything else.

Attendance at a bowl game is so important because, it gives the perspective of how big the bowl game is. If you are looking forward to attending a bowl game and you finally arrive to stadium, where there are only a couple hundred people there. You would feel like you wasted your money for nothing. But if you attend a bowl game where there are thousands of people in attendance, you will think that you picked the right game to attend. It’s not just the fact that they want games to bring in money, it’s really for the fans and there enjoyment. I know if I was to attend a game, I would attend the BCS National championship. I would attend this game because, I know it’s going to be a high scoring game and a lot of fans will be there to witness it.

A lot of investment goes into these bowl games. Along with all this investment comes a lot of revenue. Money is spent buying tickets for the actually game. Before the game or prior to the game, you might purchase school apparel to represent the team you are there to see. Once at the game you will purchase some sort of concession, whether it’s a hotdog, pretzel, soda, candy, popcorn, and being of age of course a nice cold beer or two.
Attendance is really important for multiple reasons. One reason is that if the fans/audience stop seeing or attending these games, then they will cease. Another really important reason is that the players really want that support there. I’m really looking forward to the BCS National Championship, Auburn all the way! I’m also looking forward for the Military Bowl, I want ECU to win because I want to go to college there.

  17. I think that some of the things that money is spent on at bowl games are on lights. All those lights that need electricity to light up the stadium must cost a lot. Also the food that they serve there is another way they spend money, need to buy all that food for the people there. Another way they could spend the money is the entertainment they provide during half time.
The attendance is really important because that’s how they make the most money to pay for all those things. Also when there is a game that isn’t sold out then next year it might sell out either. So it’s good to try a sold out game and giving the crowd what they want so that next year t they go again.

  18. They have to spend money on advertisements, games, snacks and/or food for the fans. Also they have to spend money on all the staff that they have to run this big event. They may have to spend money on stuff for the kids to play or for the parents to relax. To run the bowl game they might have to repaint stuff so it looks its best and so they home team has their colors. The bowl game can help the people that live near it. They could raise property tax or the value of your house. Also people could rent their home out to people that don’t want a hotel and also so they can make a lot of money.
Attendance is very important, because one it could change history. Also it will help the business of the bowl game alive. It will also help because the player will have a full house and they will have to put on a show for their fans. I am really looking forward to watch the BCS bowl game. They are two high scoring teams and I want to know who will really win that game. Also I hear that that is going to be packed house and a lot of people are going to watch that game.

  19. Money is sent in so many ways when people come to watch bowl games. First they spend money at the hotel. This occurs before the bowl game ever starts. Money is also spent on tickets to the game, which can be outrageously expensive. Money is also spent on apparel, like shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and other gear. At the game, money is spent on concessions. The bowl game brings tourism to the area. Shops are flooded with people who would normally not be there. The restaurants do a business, because people always need to eat. All this is great to bring revenue to the community.
Attendance is so important because popularity of the bowl keeps sponsors interested in the game. Also if attendance is poor then the city who is hosting will not be interested in hosting in the future. I am looking forward to the BCS national championship the most. All year Oregon has been crushing everybody who they played. They have not faced a close game because their high powered offense has been racking up more points than anybody else can score. I am interested to see if anyone can compete with this crazy good Oregon offense.

  20. Money is spent at a bowl game in a variety of ways. There is the price of tickets to the game, plane or bus tickets if you don’t live in the same area of the game, the price of hotels, paying for concessions or tailgating good, and maybe the cost of admission to events and things. The bowl games are pretty important. They bring an added value to the bowl games. It almost makes it worth it to travel across the country for one football game when there are other events as well. It makes things interesting. It brings tourism and consumers to the community.
Attendance is important to the Bowl Games for a couple reasons. If nobody comes to the game, it kind of beats the purpose of the event. There is no benefit for the community if there are no people actually going there. The people who go to the games, shop at local stores and stay at local hotels, boost the economy. Actual attendance at the game is the main source of revenue for the Games. (The money would be coming from ticket sales and concessions)I’m looking forward to the Insight Bowl because Missouri is playing. I used to live in Missouri, and I would be interested in watching their game over schools like Auburn or Oklahoma to which I have no connection.

  21. ! When you go to a ball game, all you and your family want to do is buy, buy, buy. Whether its food, clothing, fanware, anything, they will buy it. No one can do what those owners can do. All they do is sell, sell, sell. They sell all kinds of novelty items no one really needs, but once a kid sees them, that’s all they want. Jerseys especially. The workers are always local, and they’re paychecks will vastly effect the community and the indivisual’s family. All that’s that. They will spend the money on groceries, the Giant will stay. They spend money so that they can keep their houses. That’s that. All they are is how much they are willing to work.

Boom. Well, without attendance it just will look stupid if the stadium is close to empty. Anywhere close to empty is bad. You have to keep up appearances. That’s all. If you can’t do that you’re terrible. Just sell low its not that bad. You have to sell out so have last minute deals. Looking forward to the Super Bowl. Should be fun. Chargers

Attendance has a lot to do with a team, because it raises money for a team and it makes the team popular. I am looking forward for the Military Bowl, because I love Maryland University and I really would like to see them win. When I graduate high school I am thinking of going to Maryland University or another college. I like this bowl as well, because it’s going to be in Washington D.C and I can go and watch it.

Attendance is very important cause its keeps interst for the sponser and make them feel good about the players attendance. Attendance has a lots of things that dose with money if a player is not at the game frist he sould tell the team manager or the owner that he is not going so they are not feel ing bad

First off attendance is so important because it is the main source to make money off the event. I am not a huge fan of football but I am most looking forward to the bcs bowl. The bcs bowl is the most anticipated game of all three. Each year it is exciting
